Simplifying the valuation and liquidation process for alternative investments

My role
  • Explored multiple UX approaches for moving a user through robust form inputs
  • Designed and prototyped a consistent user experience that spanned multiple back ends and data sources
  • Created a design system, aligning to Material Design components, in lieu of any existing frameworks
  • Documented an extensive heuristic audit of a customer portal
Project results
  • Many recommendations from the heuristic audit have been implemented in publc-facing areas.
  • Other post-launch performance details were not available.
Situation
Beneficient had a back-end valuation process for AltQuote but had no front-end experience to guide a prospect through the sets of funding and personal information needed to respond to a request.
Solution
  • We explored three models of capturing information and built in flexibility to include alternative investments beyond basic funds.
  • We built flexibility into the system, so a prospect could still receive a quote by providing fewer data elements. Any additional optional inputs simply returned a more accurate valuation range.
  • A heuristic audit gave the clients' dev team actionable reccomendations to optimize their customer portal.

Heuristic audit
The client asked us to identify usability issues with their customer portal. Using a set of heuristic principles, I identified problematic areas and their severity, with recommendations on optimizing these to streamline the user experience or communicate more clearly.
UX architecture
I created experience principles to support UX decision-making through the project. Form completion was the heart of the user experience, so I sketched three approaches to better understand how to optimally segment the sequence of inputs.
UX design
I created a wireframe prototype and a presentation deck to introduce clients to the intent, conditions, and nuances of each of the main steps a user would take in the process.
Efficient delivery
I created flows to give the client’s development team a solid understanding of the UX at a high level. Data tables captured details on data elements, integrations, and hosting, to keep a consistent experience across multiple back ends.
